Reflecting on your experience in this online class and others you might have taken, what has been your experience of community within the online classroom? Has collaboration with classmates been important to your learning in this environment? What factors do you think contribute to a sense of community in online classes? What factors can undermine a sense of community in an online classroom?
I have found my experience with our class has been a very positive one. For example: I have noticed that when anyone has problems or questions there are several people that are willing to assist and provide valuable information. There is just an extremely positive sense of collaboration which is why this experience has been so good for me.
I believe one of the most important factors that contribute to a sense of community is that there needs to be communication. Since you are unable to see your classmates in an online class communication using discussion boards, Centra, and emails makes this successful.
I also think that lack of communication in turn undermines a sense of community. If you are in a group and you are the only one speaking then you do not feel that you are learning very much.
